KEEP IT CLEAN
That's the best and simplest advice we could possibly give you, keep your fresh new ink clean. This process starts here while you're still at the shop and doesn't end until the piece is entirely healed. After the tattoo we'll clean you up and apply some of our favorite aftercare product before wrapping up the piece. This "dressing" (bandage, wrap) needs to be kept on until its bled out and you are home to clean the surface. We understand your excitement and wanting to remove the wrap to admire it on your way home or send pictures to friends (but lets be honest you shouldn't be snapchatting and driving anyways) but do yourself a solid and keep it on. Bacteria is invisible and hiding everywhere, at the end of the day this is technically a fresh and open wound. When you get home and remove the dressing, give it a good cleaning. Use warm water and unscented soaps, no perfumes and scents. In this instance, less is more. Wash any blood build up off the area by gently rubbing the blood spots in small and light circular motions until they are removed. Blood drying on the surface promotes scabbing which will ultimately slow the healing process and potentially damage the art. Be sure to avoid soaking the tattoo when cleaning it, because that will also potentially damage the area as well. Pat the area dry with a clean paper towel and prepare your aftercare product.
AVOID
No swimming pools, oceans, lakes, jacuzzis or soaking in water of any kind! Avoid tight fitting clothing and irritating fabrics. Keep out of direct sunlight until healed. Once healed always use sunblock if prolonged exposure to the sun can not be avoided. If a rash appears around or on the area, stop use of any lotions or after care products and call the shop immediately.
APPLY AFTERCARE PRODUCTS
Apply the right aftercare products to the new piece regularly and as necessary. Our professional recommendation is that you apply the aftercare in very light coats 2 to 3 times a day for 2 to 3 days, then as needed to prevent excessive drying and peeling. At the end of the day you know your body better than anybody else! If you feel as though you need more or less that is entirely up to you. If you are not sure, call the shop and we'll address any and all questions. We are a firm believer that there are no such things as stupid questions.
